What’s going on with the bilateral pulmonary infiltrative changes?

The result of chest CT examination is that the dorsal segment of the lower lobes of both lungs has infiltration, which may be physiological phenomenon, or it may be the result of pneumonia.
1. Physiological phenomenon: commonly seen in long-term bedridden elderly patients, due to the slow blood circulation of such patients, and seldom turn over and pat the back, so the blood is easy to stagnate in the dorsal segment of the lower lobes of both lungs, resulting in local edema, and then appear in the chest CT double lung infiltration changes in the results.
2. Pneumatitis of infiltration: It is common in patients who have been bedridden for a long period of time after the operation. Due to the weakening of respiratory clearance function, a large amount of respiratory secretions have been accumulated in the lower part of the lungs, and these secretions are the excellent culture medium for bacteria, so the local area will be easily infected and then pneumatitis of infiltration will occur, which will lead to the appearance of the change of infiltration of both lungs in the chest CT.
If the patient is found to have bilateral pneumonitis, it is recommended to consult a doctor to find out the cause of the pneumonitis and to follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
