What is the meaning of pediatric convulsions?

Convulsions are also known as tics, cramps, and convulsions as we commonly refer to them. It is a common disease in pediatrics. Let’s learn more about what convulsions mean. Convulsions are one of the most common pediatric neurological symptoms and a common acute serious illness in children, generally manifesting clinically as rhythmic movements of the limbs (convulsions) and coma. Convulsions are also known as “convulsions”, commonly known as “convulsions” or “frightening wind”. They are common in infants and children, and their incidence increases with age and can occur in any season. Some convulsions are potentially life-threatening. Brief convulsions generally have no significant effect on the brain, but prolonged convulsions, especially those with persistent status epilepticus, may lead to permanent neurological damage. Because the cerebral cortex of infants and young children is not yet well developed, the layer wrapped around the outside of the nerve fibers is the “myelin sheath”, and when this part is not fully formed, then its insulation and protection will be relatively poor, and when stimulated, the impulse excitement will easily expand, and when the immune function is low, it is easy for infection to induce convulsions, because poor blood-brain barrier function in infants and young children, foreign microorganisms can easily enter brain tissue, and these are the reasons for the high incidence of convulsions in infancy and early childhood. It is rare to see a precursor before a convulsion. However, if you see the following conditions, you should be alert to the onset of convulsions: panic, extreme irritability, sudden rapid, suspended or irregular breathing, sudden rise in body temperature, nervousness, sudden increase in muscle tone of the limbs, and dramatic change in facial color. Convulsions are usually sudden, parents should not panic during the attack, should keep the infant breathing, prevent bruises and injuries, and immediately sent to the hospital for treatment.
