It is normal for the blood pressure to be different every time it is measured. The first thing to consider is the position of the patient, for example, the blood pressure is higher in the lying position than in the standing or sitting position. The blood pressure values of the two arms are also different, usually the dominant arm has a higher blood pressure than the other arm, usually 15-20 mmHg higher, which is normal. Blood pressure has two peaks and a valley, usually higher between 6-10 am and 4-8 pm, and lower at night. So both people with normal blood pressure and those with hypertension will have different blood pressure values each time they are measured. Therefore, it is important to judge the value of blood pressure according to the position, the condition of the left and right arms, and the time of day when the blood pressure is measured, and give symptomatic treatment. The tightness of the cuff is also different when the patient’s blood pressure is measured. Each time the cuff is tied, the tightness should be moderate, and it should be as tight as the last time the cuff was tied, so that the measured blood pressure value is relatively accurate.
