Dark circles under the eyes may be due to allergic dark circles, or it may be caused by overuse of eyes or improper use of cosmetics. 1. Atopic dark circles: refers to the bluish-black color of the eyelids, most often appearing in very young children, with childhood onset, manifesting as hyperpigmentation around the eyes, usually involving the lower eyelids first and then the upper eyelids. With age, the skin damage can extend to involve the eyebrows and zygomatic areas. There are usually no conscious symptoms, and skin histopathology shows increased pigmentation in the dermis. 2. Excessive eye use: because of excessive eye use or lack of sleep and other reasons, resulting in venous stasis around the eyes, clinically manifested as dark circles under the eyes. 3. Improper use of cosmetics: often due to cosmetic factors leading to pigmented cosmetic dermatitis, manifested as darkening of the eye circle; ultraviolet irradiation resulting in localized darkening of the eye circle. Darkening of the eye circle, if rest does not recover, need to be examined under the guidance of a doctor, and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
