Usually, for women with regular menstrual periods, ovulation occurs fourteen days before the next menstrual period. 4-5 days before and after ovulation day are the fertile period, during which it is easy to get pregnant if you have proper sexual intercourse. Some women of childbearing age monitor the size of their follicles and project the time of ovulation to conceive, increasing their chances of pregnancy. A subset of women monitor their follicles with test strips and have intercourse within 24-48 hours of ovulation to increase their chances of conception. Some women also measure their basal body temperature to predict the time of ovulation. After ovulation, the basal body temperature rises by 0.2-0.5 degrees, and intercourse during this time period increases the chance of conception.
