What to check for when your child is short

The items to be examined for short stature depend on the possible causes, such as hypothyroidism caused by thyroid function, etc.; growth hormone deficiency requires growth hormone examination and cranial nuclear CT, etc.; Turner syndrome requires ultrasound of the ovaries and uterus, etc., as follows. 1. For children with short stature suspected to be caused by hypothyroidism, thyroid function tests should be performed routinely to assist in the diagnosis. 2. For children with short stature suspected to be caused by growth hormone deficiency, growth hormone status should be evaluated, as well as cranial and cerebral magnetic and CT examinations. 3. If Turner syndrome is suspected in girls, ultrasound or imaging of the ovaries and uterus, such as CT or MRI, is needed to determine sexual development. Since different children have different conditions, if parents find that their children have short stature, they should go to regular hospitals in time and follow the doctor’s instructions to carry out the appropriate examinations.
