Moxibustion can be used to treat spleen deficiency by moxibustion of the middle epigastric region, the stomach, and the spleen.
The mid-epigastric region, located 4 inches above the umbilicus on the anterior midline, has the effect of eliminating food stagnation (promoting digestion of food), as well as calming and tranquilizing the mind, in addition to lowering rebelliousness and inducing diuresis.
Therefore, moxibustion can be used to treat symptoms such as abdominal distension, nausea (lack of appetite, reduced food intake), vomiting, acid swallowing (swallowing acid from the stomach upward to the mouth and throat), and hiccups (burping) caused by a deficiency of the spleen.
Stomach Yu: Located under the spinous process of the 12th thoracic vertebra, 1.5 inches away from the posterior midline, it has the effect of warming the middle and lowering the rebelliousness (warming and tonifying the stomach to prevent the stomach qi from rushing upwards) as well as harmonizing with the stomach and stopping vomiting, and therefore it can be used to treat vomiting, abdominal distension, intestinal sounds, and emaciation caused by spleen deficiency.
Spleen Yu: Located below the spinous process of the 11th thoracic vertebra, 1.5 inches away from the posterior midline, it has the effect of benefiting qi and strengthening the spleen, as well as harmonizing the stomach and lowering rebelliousness (harmonizing the stomach qi and making the upwardly rebellious qi to descend), and therefore can be used to treat symptoms such as abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dysentery resulting from a deficient spleen.
If you need to use acupuncture therapy, you need to be operated by a doctor, do not operate by yourself to avoid adverse consequences.
