Low back pain caused by degenerative lumbar disc disease seriously affects patients’ normal life and work, and the long-term nature of treatment and huge costs consume a lot of medical resources. After traditional lumbar fusion surgery, the lumbar spine loses some of its mobility and the stress on the adjacent segment increases, which aggravates the degeneration of the small joints in that segment; while the new concept – lumbar non-fusion surgery preserves the mobility of the lumbar segments and restores their stability, and the operation is minimally invasive, which is especially suitable for young and middle-aged patients. Since 2007, I have been the first in the province to treat 22 patients with lumbar disc herniation with the Wallis system (interspinous spine bracing device), a lumbar non-fusion instrument from Abbott, France, with an average follow-up of 1 year and an excellent preliminary result rate of 95.4%.
