What is squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsils?

Squamous cell carcinoma of tonsil refers to malignant tumors originated from the tonsillar fossa on both sides of oropharynx, and squamous cell carcinoma is the pathological type of tumor. Squamous cell carcinoma of tonsil is related to long-term inflammatory stimulation of tonsil and smoking, and long-term smoking and heavy drinking may be important triggers. Early clinical manifestations are not obvious, but with the progression of the disease, it may present with sore throat, hemorrhage, difficulty in opening the mouth, and it may be radiated to the ear and face of the same side, and if it invades the surrounding tissues, it may present with difficulty in swallowing and respiration. Pathologic biopsy of tonsil can confirm the diagnosis. If tonsil squamous carcinoma is suspected, patients should have clear pathological examination as early as possible and be staged as early as possible. Stage I and II radical radiotherapy and surgical treatment have better effect, while stage III and IV mostly adopt radiotherapy-based comprehensive treatment.
