Poor sleep quality is considered by Chinese medicine to belong to the category of insomnia, which is commonly characterized by frequent difficulty in falling asleep, dizziness, headache and other symptoms. It can be categorized into five types: liver depression and fire (liver qi is blocked, resulting in the production of fire and heat), phlegm-heat internal disturbance, yin deficiency and fire, deficiency of heart and spleen, and deficiency of heart and gallbladder qi.
Liver Depression and Fire is treated with Longdian Diarrhea and Liver Tang to relieve liver and diarrhea heat. Use with caution for deficiency and coldness of the spleen and stomach and yin deficiency and hyperactivity of the yin; use Huanglian Wengdian Tang for internal disturbance of phlegm-heat to dissolve phlegm and clear heat to tranquilize the mind. For weak spleen and stomach, use Huang Lian A Gao Tang to nourish yin and reduce fire. For deficiency of the spleen and stomach, caution should be exercised; for deficiency of the heart and spleen, use Gui Spleen Pill to benefit qi, strengthen the spleen and nourish blood to tranquilize the mind. For deficiency of yin and fire, avoid using; for deficiency of heart and gallbladder, use Jujube Ren An Shen Capsule to calm the mind. Pregnant women are advised to use with caution.
