What diseases can be detected by autoantibodies

Autoantibodies can detect autoimmune diseases. In liver disease, autoimmune liver disease is likely to be positive for autoantibodies. The diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis can basically be made if there is inflammation of the liver with no other cause and positive antinuclear antibodies are found, as well as positive anti-smooth muscle antibodies, anti-liver and kidney microsomal antibodies, and anti-hepatocyte solute antibodies. If anti-mitochondrial antibodies are found positive in patients with significant jaundice and cholestasis, it is possible that primary cholestatic cholangitis is present. When positive antinuclear antibodies, antimitochondrial antibodies, and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies of the perinuclear type are found, primary sclerosing cholangitis is suggested.
