What to do if your blood pressure stays low after gastrectomy

Constant low blood pressure after gastrectomy may be caused by poor cardiac function, hemorrhagic shock, infectious shock, and so on. The treatment is based on the different causes of the disease, such as improvement of cardiac function, blood volume supplementation, anti-infection, or the use of norepinephrine.
Postoperative hypotension is common in patients, and blood pressure is related to cardiac output, blood volume status, and vascular tone.
1. If the patient’s blood pressure is lowered due to low cardiac output, the patient’s cardiac function should be improved promptly, such as applying diuretics, digitalis or vasodilator drugs.
2. If the patient’s blood volume is low, for example, if there is more bleeding during the operation or if there is still active bleeding after the operation, blood volume should be supplemented or blood transfusion should be carried out in a timely manner, so as to minimize the impact of blood volume loss on blood pressure. If accompanied by infection, consider infectious shock, suggest giving anti-infection treatment, such as cephalosporin, metronidazole and so on.
3. If the patient’s vascular tone is problematic, anesthesia drugs are likely to cause vasodilatation of the patient’s blood vessels and lower blood pressure, and vasoconstrictor drugs, such as norepinephrine, can be applied for treatment.
All of the above drugs are forbidden for those who are allergic to them and should be taken according to the doctor’s instructions. If the patient’s blood pressure is low, or persistent failure to improve, it is recommended to go to a regular hospital in a timely manner, after clarifying the cause of the disease, under the guidance of the doctor for targeted treatment.
