Is vocal cord leukoplakia serious?

Vocal cord leukoplakia belongs to pre-cancerous lesions, which is not a very serious disease, but should be taken seriously. Vocal cord leukoplakia is laryngeal leukoplakia, which refers to white patchy elevation on the surface of the mucosa of the vocal cord, or white angular protuberance-like lesions. It is mainly due to the pathological changes caused by the long-term effect of irritating factors on the mucous membrane of the larynx, and has a certain tendency of malignant change, generally through timely and standardized treatment, it is often not immediately turned into cancer. The cause of vocal cord leukoplakia is not completely clear, may be related to chronic laryngitis, immunity decline, excessive use of voice, smoking and gastroesophageal reflux disease and other factors, the disease often shows hoarseness, aggravated with the development of lesions. Laryngoscopy reveals a white membranous layer on the surface of the vocal folds or their edges, or white hyperplastic elevations on the surface of the vocal folds with a limited range or spreading to the whole vocal folds, with normal vocal cord movement. If cancerous lesions occur, the movement of the vocal folds may be limited. Conservative treatment combined with surgical treatment is mostly recommended. It is recommended to actively seek medical treatment, and standardize medication and treatment after clarifying the type and cause of the lesion.
