How long to rest for partial nephrectomy

Partial nephrectomy requires bed rest for at least 7-10 days. The changes of vital signs and the drainage of retroperitoneal drainage tube after partial nephrectomy, as well as the color of urine need to be observed at all times. After partial nephrectomy, local tumor removal or removal of part of the kidney, the residual kidney needs to be sutured, and secondary bleeding may occur at the suture. If the patient has persistent hematuria after surgery, or persistent bleeding in the drainage tube is more than 200ml per hour, it indicates the presence of active bleeding, and even requires a second operation to stop the bleeding. Therefore, it is important to stay absolutely bedridden after surgery, i.e., eating, drinking, pooping, and not to move on the floor to avoid wound dehiscence and bleeding, and sometimes persistent hematuria or persistent bleeding from the drainage tube can occur even during bed rest. Therefore, we should closely monitor the changes of vital signs after surgery and keep absolute bed rest for at least 7-10 days until the urine is completely bloodless, the bleeding from the drainage tube has completely stopped, there is no hematoma in the retroperitoneum on review, and the anastomosis has healed well before we can consider moving to the ground at our discretion.
