Cholecystectomy is usually recommended for patients with multiple gallbladder stones, even if there are no associated symptoms.
Gallstones are a common benign disease of the biliary system, most of them are found during physical examination, usually not accompanied by abdominal pain, and the size and function of the gallbladder are normal. If the number is single, observation and follow-up can be done, but for multiple stones, surgical removal is usually recommended.
For multiple gallstones, if the form is small, take medication, lithotripsy and other treatments, the general effect is not obvious. If left unattended, the stones may enlarge or fall into the bile ducts, causing recurrent biliary colic, secondary bile duct stones, and gallbladder-filled stones.
In addition, long-term stimulation of the gallbladder by the stones may even lead to the risk of cancer, so preventive surgery to remove the gallbladder is generally recommended for patients with multiple gallstones.
Patients with multiple gallbladder stones should avoid eating too much greasy food in their daily diet to avoid stimulating excessive contraction of the gallbladder and triggering biliary colic or acute cholecystitis. If the diagnosis of multiple gallbladder stones is confirmed, it is recommended to complete the relevant examinations and should follow the doctor’s advice to carry out the relevant treatment.
