Carbamazepine is currently the drug of choice for the treatment of primary trigeminal neuralgia, taking a dose of 200mg to 1600mg/d.
Specific adjustment process: the initial dose of 200mg, 1 ~ 2 times / d, when the symptoms can not be controlled, increase 100mg per day, until the pain relief or adverse effects. The maximum daily dose is 1000~1600mg.Dose adjustment mainly depends on the degree of relief of clinical symptoms and the occurrence of adverse reactions, blood concentration measurement is not helpful.
Carbamazepine tablets are available in 100mg and 200mg sizes, and the number of tablets can be determined against the above dosage.
Some of the adverse reactions of this drug are dose-dependent, such as: dizziness, drowsiness, nystagmus, etc.; others are non-dose-dependent, such as drug-induced hepatitis, myelosuppression, hyponatremia, congestive heart failure, rash, etc., and are contraindicated in pregnant women.
Carbamazepine can cause serious skin adverse reactions, it is recommended that patients should preferably undergo HLA-B*1502 allele testing before using the drug.
