It is still recommended not to drink alcohol after you have recovered from reflux esophagitis. The cause of reflux esophagitis is the structural or functional abnormality of the anti-reflux barrier caused by the relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, or the reduction of the barrier function of the esophageal mucosa caused by long-term alcohol consumption and smoking. Reflux esophagitis is a long-term chronic inflammatory disease that usually requires a long treatment time and a long recovery time. After a longer period of treatment, the recovery effect is better, but the disappearance of symptoms is not necessarily a complete cure for GERD. Drinking alcohol can irritate the esophageal mucosa and lead to aggravation of the condition, so drinking alcohol is not recommended. Secondly, because drinking alcohol is one of the causes of reflux esophagitis, it is recommended to avoid drinking alcohol even after the reflux esophagitis is really cured.
