Sports medicine is a secondary discipline of special medicine. And orthopedic science is a tertiary discipline of clinical medicine, where special medicine and clinical medicine are on the same level, so strictly speaking sports medicine is one level higher than orthopedic science. However, in practice, sports medicine is part of the larger orthopedic department. Orthopedics mainly focuses on the research and treatment of infections, tumors, congenital malformations, traumas and inflammatory diseases of the sports system. Sports medicine is mainly concerned with trauma caused by sports, sports strain and injuries to muscles, bones, ligaments and other soft tissues. Therefore, the scope of orthopedic research is broader, and sports medicine is mainly a department of sports trauma.
