Difference between monofocal and bifocal cataracts

Cataract IOLs can be categorized into monofocal, bifocal and multifocal according to their focal design. The difference between monofocal and bifocal is mainly in function and price.
Monofocal IOL has only one focal point, no adjustment ability, patients can only see near or far. If the IOL is reserved for distance vision, the patient will be able to see clearly at a distance after the operation, and need to wear presbyopia glasses to see near.
Bifocal lens is composed of concentric lenses with different refractive errors, which can be used for both near and far vision at the same time, and usually patients do not need to wear glasses after surgery. However, bifocal lenses also have shortcomings, and patients may experience discomfort such as glare and halos after surgery. If the patient cannot adapt to it for a long time, the crystal needs to be removed surgically.
In terms of price, monofocal lens is relatively cheap, but multifocal lens is more expensive.
It is recommended that cataract patients consult a doctor in time to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions to choose the appropriate treatment.
