Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a reproductive endocrine and metabolic disease, most commonly seen in women of childbearing age, which is characterized by ovulatory dysfunction, hyperandrogenemia, insulin resistance and acanthosis nigricans.
1. Ovulatory dysfunction: mainly manifested by scanty menstruation (less than 6 times per year), amenorrhea, menopause and irregular vaginal bleeding, etc. In addition, infertility may also occur.
2. Hyperandrogenemia: manifested by the increase of hair on the upper lip, chin, ear, areola and chest, etc. Hyperandrogenemia will also cause women to have more acne and easy hair loss.
3. Insulin resistance: The main symptoms of insulin resistance are obesity, elevated blood sugar, elevated triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein.
4. Acanthosis nigricans: It is manifested as local skin color aggravation, blackening, thickening and hardening of the skin surface, and the most common parts are the back of the neck, armpits, vulva, groin and other skin folds.
