How to do a liver puncture biopsy

A liver puncture biopsy is performed by using a biopsy needle to puncture the liver through the skin and remove a small strip of liver tissue for pathologic examination. Before the liver puncture biopsy, blood is drawn for coagulation and blood tests to rule out any contraindications. Liver puncture biopsy is performed with the patient lying flat on the operating table with both upper limbs raised above the head. The surgeon will select the puncture point, disinfect the puncture point, locally anesthetize the skin and subcutaneous tissues, and then use a biopsy needle to perform the puncture, which will be quickly withdrawn after entering the liver parenchyma, and the procedure will take only 1-2 seconds. After the liver puncture biopsy need to put pressure bandage, strict bed rest for 24 hours, puncture site of minor pain can be temporarily off the tremor, if the pain is unbearable need to inform the doctor for treatment.
