After circumcision the wound is usually dressed using gauze and an elastic bandage. Circumcision is a relatively minor surgery, and generally after circumcision, the wound is first bandaged with a circle of Vaseline gauze, then externally with sterile gauze for pressure bandage, and again with an elastic bandage for pressure bandage. The purpose is to prevent bleeding and edema of the foreskin, to isolate the wound from the outside world, and to prevent infection caused by contamination of the wound during urination. Under normal circumstances, gauze needs to be changed every three days until the wound heals, and no gauze dressing is needed after the sutures are removed. The gauze can usually be removed after one week, but the time is not absolute and needs to be decided in conjunction with the patient’s recovery. If urine inadvertently soaks the gauze, you should seek immediate medical attention and have the gauze replaced.
