Brain maturity tests are usually done only in newborns who are born prematurely. Poor brain maturity is not necessarily serious, but depends on the child’s brain maturity and subsequent development.
1. If a newborn’s brain maturity is severely underdeveloped, the child is likely to suffer from motor disorders, intellectual backwardness and other sequelae. This is the more serious case.
2. If the newborn’s brain maturity is only slightly abnormal, it is possible for the child to return to normal later as the child develops. In this case, the prognosis is relatively good.
If the newborn’s brain maturity is found to be poor, it should be sent to the neonatal unit for further treatment. Regular medical check-ups will be required in the future to understand the child’s development. If there are any problems such as developmental delay, rehabilitation should be carried out as early as possible under the guidance of the doctor.
