(Disclaimer: This article is only for popular science purposes, in order to protect the privacy of patients, the relevant information in the following content has been processed) Abstract: Flat feet, also known as flatfoot, mainly manifested as the collapse of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot, is a foot deformity, the arch collapses when standing, walking, which can cause pain in the foot. The main reason for the child mentioned in this article is that he always has foot pain after exercise, accompanied by a feeling of soreness and swelling, which can be relieved after resting. According to the symptoms and examination, he was diagnosed as having flat feet, and the discomfort of the child’s feet got better through exercise and the treatment of arch-supporting insoles, and with the body’s growth and development, his flat feet can be cured in the end. Basic information] Male, 7 years old [Type of disease] Flat feet [Hospital] The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University [Date of consultation] March 2022 [Treatment plan] Rest + arch support insoles + corrective exercises (toe grip exercises, heel lift exercises) [Treatment period] 1 month of treatment, with regular outpatient follow-ups [Results] Arch recovery, correction of hallux valgus, and alleviation of pain. The child came to the clinic accompanied by his parents because he had foot pain after walking for one month. According to the parents’ description, the child usually loves sports, often running and jumping, and loves soccer and basketball. In the last month, the child always had foot pain with soreness after exercise, which could be relieved after resting, but would still occur after exercise. In the last week, the parents inadvertently noticed that the child’s feet were flared outward, showing a figure of eight, which seemed to be aggravated by the trend. Heel valgus caused by the collapse of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot produces an exotropic deformity. Therefore, I first instructed the child to take off his shoes and stand barefoot on a flat surface, and then observed the shape of the foot from the rear and side, which initially confirmed the diagnosis of flat feet. After the consultation, we further took weight-bearing X-ray examination of both feet, which clarified the degree of arch collapse and excluded bone deformity. All these confirmed the diagnosis of flatfoot. After communicating with the parents, the following treatment plan was formulated for the child: 1. Firstly, reduce the amount of exercise, avoid prolonged walking, running and jumping, and soak the feet in hot water every day. 2. 2.Walking with arch support insoles to elevate the medial wedge of the foot and support the longitudinal arch of the foot. 3. Adhere to foot correction exercises, such as toe grip exercises and heel lift exercises. After using the arch support insoles, the children’s foot arches improved significantly, and the corresponding external heel kicks were also improved. After one month of systematic treatment, the child’s foot pain and discomfort improved during the outpatient review, and then the parents were instructed that the child needed to continue to use the support insoles because the child’s foot ligaments had not yet completed development, and the appropriate support insoles were beneficial to the development of the arch of the foot, and at the same time, it was necessary to adhere to the exercise, and the child and the parents were very satisfied with the results of the treatment. With the growth and development of the body, the child’s flat feet can eventually be cured. Note: When using arch support insoles, this child can restore the shape of the foot arch, so it belongs to the flexible flat foot. Before the age of 10, most of the children with flat feet can be corrected through orthopedic insoles and active rehabilitation exercises. This child’s body is the time of development, can get good treatment results, truly happy for the child and parents, but in ordinary life also need to pay attention to the following points: 1, diet needs to be more intake of food containing high calcium, more high protein, high vitamin diet. Avoid overeating, avoid short-term weight gain, so as not to increase the pressure on the foot. 2, usually pay more attention to the combination of work and rest, such as walking for a period of time, or exercise for a period of time, to rest properly, avoid foot strain, reduce foot pressure. 3, it is recommended that you can use hot water to soak your feet, which can promote blood circulation in the feet and reduce the pain, soreness and other symptoms of discomfort in the feet of children. V. Personal perception The treatment of children’s flat feet should be divided into age groups, in the early childhood section (0-3 years old), at this time, the foot arch has not yet formed, the fat on the bottom of the foot is relatively thick, belonging to the physiological flat feet, in most cases there is no need to intervene, so that the child can play more barefoot, increase the external stimulation of the foot. 3-7 years old, if you find that your child has a flat foot, it is generally recommended that your child wears an arch support insole, which is conducive to the normal arch development. For children aged 7-10 years old, the use of arch support insoles may not be able to completely correct flat feet, and when the child is older, minimally invasive surgical treatment may be needed. Therefore, it is important for children with flat feet to see a doctor in a timely manner and follow the doctor’s recommendations for timely treatment, and hopefully, all of them will be able to get the desired treatment results like my child.
