What does postural proteinuria mean?

Postural proteinuria, also known as erectile proteinuria, is a condition in which the spine compresses the left renal vein when the body is held in an upright position or in other positions that cause the lumbar spine to bulge forward, resulting in an increase in localized venous pressure, which disappears with rest in the prone position. This condition is usually seen in adolescents with tall, thin bodies. The diagnosis of postural proteinuria has the following criteria: the patient has no history of renal disease; the patient does not have other systemic diseases related to the kidneys; the patient does not have hypertension; the patient’s urinary sediment is normal; the patient’s urinary imaging is normal; the patient’s urinary protein quantification is less than 1g in 24 hours, and the urinary protein quantification in lying down is less than 75mg in 12 hours. In summary, patients with postural proteinuria should follow the doctor’s instructions regularly to the regular hospital follow-up, to observe changes in the condition.
