Can patients with facial neuritis drink alcohol?

Patients with facial neuritis should not drink alcohol. Facial neuritis means that the facial nerve in the extracranial segment is attacked by a virus, or when the resistance is low, cold or wind causes swelling of the facial nerve, causing the patient to develop facial muscle paralysis. In the acute stage, patients must pay attention from life to avoid long-term stimulation of the face by cold wind, and patients should have a light, well-digested and well-absorbed diet. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, and avoid spicy and stimulating foods, especially alcohol. This is because drinking alcohol can cause some stimulation to the nerves, which is detrimental to the recovery of facial neuritis. For the treatment of facial neuritis, if there is no contraindication to the use of hormones during the acute phase, patients should be given hormones such as dexamethasone or methylprednisolone to reduce facial nerve edema, and if the patient has a viral infection also use acyclovir antiviral. Through a combination of treatments, acupuncture can be used to intervene after a week or so.
