What to do if a bowel obstruction recurs after surgery

Postoperative recurrence of intestinal obstruction should be given gastrointestinal decompression, anti-infection, adjustment of water-electrolyte balance and other comprehensive treatment or surgical treatment.

1. Gastrointestinal decompression: it can better relieve abdominal distension and abdominal wall edema, and reduce the fluid or gas retained in the gastrointestinal tract of patients.

2. Anti-infection treatment: If there is infection caused by postoperative intestinal flora shift and bacterial reproduction and proliferation, anti-infection treatment is needed, and medicines such as metronidazole or cefazolin sodium should be used according to doctor’s instructions.

3. Adjustment of water-electrolyte balance: vitamins B, C, D, K, etc., as well as iron and calcium can be supplemented through rehydration as prescribed by the doctor.

4. Surgical treatment: for patients with serious symptoms such as complication of gastrointestinal hemorrhage or perforation, laparotomy can be used to remove part of the intestinal segment.

For patients with recurrence of intestinal obstruction after surgery, it is recommended to seek medical treatment in time to avoid delaying the condition.
