What causes gbs positive

A positive gbs is usually the result of vertical transmission.

gbs refers to group B streptococcus, also known as Streptococcus agalactiae, which normally resides in the rectum and vagina, and is a conditionally pathogenic bacterium that can be vertically transmitted. Infection with group B streptococcus does not cause illness in the general population. However, if a pregnant woman is infected with group B streptococcus, her baby may become infected, so she needs to be screened for group B streptococcus between 34 and 37 weeks of pregnancy.

If a pregnant woman is infected with group B streptococcus, it may cause her newborn to inhale infected amniotic fluid at birth or get infected with group B streptococcus through the birth canal, which may affect the health of the newborn.

It is recommended that pregnant women should be screened for Group B streptococcus, and once diagnosed, they should receive treatment under the guidance of a specialist.
