Does Erythromycin Ointment Cure Lip Infections

Erythromycin ointment can be used to treat lipitis caused by bacterial infection, and it is not recommended to use erythromycin ointment to treat lipitis if it is caused by viral infection or allergy. Erythromycin is a macrolide antibiotic, which plays an antibacterial role by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial proteins, and has antimicrobial activity against most Gram-positive bacteria, some Gram-negative bacteria and mycoplasma. Among them, the ointment is clinically used for bacterial infections caused by acne, burns, ulcers, pus, and so on. The medication may produce local irritation. If severe burning, redness, swelling and itching occur at the site of application, the medication should be stopped immediately, the site of application should be cleaned and feedback should be given to the physician. Allergic reactions can also occur after the use of the drug. Care should be taken to avoid combining the drug with lincomycin or chloramphenicol, as competition for the binding site of the drug can produce antagonistic effects. Additionally, lipitis has multiple etiologies and may or may not be accompanied by other systemic symptoms; therefore, patients should use the drug under the supervision of a medical professional and strictly adhere to medical advice.
