Plugged ears may be caused by cerumen embolism, secretory otitis media or purulent otitis media, etc. You can choose to remove cerumen, use medication or surgical treatment to deal with it.
1. Cerumen embolism: When cerumen is overproduced or discharged, it gradually forms a mass and blocks the external ear canal. One may feel that the ear is blocked, the ear is stuffy and the hearing is reduced. If the active cerumen does not completely block the external auditory canal, it can be removed with a cerumen hook; if it is hard and dry, it can be softened with 5% sodium bicarbonate, rinsed out with warm saline or suctioned out with a suction device.
2. Secretory otitis media: conductive deafness and tympanic effusion are the main features. It is mostly caused by eustachian tube dysfunction, local infection, allergic reaction and air pressure injury. In the acute stage, amoxicillin and cefuroxime can be used as anti-infection; 1% ephedrine solution and tretinoin nasal spray can be used alternatively to keep the Eustachian tube and nasal cavity clear; if necessary, tympanic membrane puncture can be used to extract the fluid or cut and place the tube.
3. purulent otitis media: purulent otitis media is due to pneumococcal and Haemophilus influenzae infection, easy to lead to pus plugged ears, as soon as possible to apply a sufficient amount of antibiotics amoxicillin clavulanate potassium, cefuroxime and other drugs anti-infective treatment. 3% hydrogen peroxide after washing the ear, antibiotic ear drops ear pointing treatment, such as levofloxacin hydrochloride ear drops, and so on.
If the ears are plugged, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time, after the diagnosis is clear, follow the doctor’s instructions for medication and treatment.
