The reference range of normal value of urine volume is 1000-2000ml/24h for adults, and children’s urine volume is calculated according to their weight, which is about 3-4 times of that of adults.
Urine output generally refers to the total amount of urine excreted from the body, often estimated in 24 hours, the amount of urine mainly depends on the state of renal function, but also by the spirit, water intake, activity, age, medication and temperature environment.
Polyuria refers to the urine volume of adults>2500ml/24h, children’s urine volume>3000ml/24h. People with normal renal function are mostly considered to have physiological factors, such as excessive water intake, stress, etc. Pathological factors can be seen in endocrine disease, renal disease or metabolic disease.
Oliguria is defined as urine output of less than 400ml/24h or less than 17ml per hour in adults, less than 300m/24h in preschool children, and less than 200m/24h in infants and toddlers. anuria is defined as urine output of less than 100ml/24h in adults, and less than 30-50ml/24h in infants and toddlers.
Oliguria and anuria are mainly caused by pre-renal, renal and post-renal factors, such as shock, acute glomerulonephritis, ureteral stones. When abnormal urine output occurs, it is recommended to consult the hospital promptly after physiological factors are ruled out.
