A lump on the tonsil is considered to be caused by tonsil papilloma, tonsil polyp, tonsil lymph node tissue hyperplasia, etc. It can be reasonably treated by drugs and surgery according to different causes. 1. Tonsillar papilloma: it may occur after infection with human papilloma virus on the basis of repeated attacks of tonsillitis. If the tumor is small, it can be treated by laser, electrocoagulation and freezing; if the tumor is large, it needs to be treated by surgery, which usually adopts transoral approach, and if the tumor involves parapharyngeal space or neck, it needs to be treated by transcervical approach or infratemporal fossa approach. 2. Tonsillar polyp: it is one kind of pharyngeal polyp, originated from tonsil, mostly caused by chronic inflammation or perverse reaction. For small polyps, generally no obvious symptoms, can be observed mainly, while maintaining oral and pharyngeal cleanliness, appropriate use of saline gargle to antibacterial and anti-inflammatory; for larger polyps can be removed under surface anesthesia. 3. Tonsil lymph node tissue hyperplasia: it is mainly the chronic inflammation stimulation of the tonsil tissue which leads to the appearance of local tissue hyperplasia. For tonsil lymph node tissue hyperplasia is not serious patients, there is no any discomfort symptoms, can be observed mainly; if the tissue hyperplasia is serious, resulting in snoring, breathlessness and other uncomfortable symptoms, then consider performing tonsillectomy for radical treatment. Therefore, different diseases have different treatment methods, it is best to go to the hospital first to improve the examination for differential diagnosis.
