Patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia can have chest pain. There are other infectious diseases of the lungs besides pneumonia that can cause symptoms of chest pain. There are sensory nerves in the pleura, and when lung disease involves the pleura, the pleural nerves are sensed and can signal pain stimuli to the brain. Chest pain can occur if the neocoronavirus pneumonia is large and involves the pleura. Chest pain does not necessarily mean that it is a case of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Many diseases of the respiratory system can cause chest pain, such as tuberculous pleurisy, pneumothorax, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary infarction, and cardiac infarction affecting the chest. To determine whether a patient with chest pain is a patient with novel coronavirus infection, chest imaging, such as X-rays or CT, should be done at the first opportunity and can be used as an initial screening measure for novel coronavirus pneumonia.
