How should medication be adjusted before and after surgery for Parkinson’s patients

Many Parkinson’s patients are concerned about how their medications should be adjusted before and after surgery, and I will explain below a number of issues that concern them most. 1. How should patients take their medication before surgery? Our opinion is that the medication before surgery must be adequate, that is, to keep the “on” state as long as possible throughout the day. Even if the patient has the “on/off” phenomenon or anisocoria, it does not matter. These side effects will basically disappear after the surgery. 2.Should Parkinson’s patients use medication after surgery? The answer is yes. Although the tremor, rigidity and retardation of Parkinson’s patients have improved to varying degrees after surgery, if the anti-Parkinson’s drugs are completely stopped, the patient will show weakness and lack of spirit. This is mainly due to the lack of dopamine transmitters in the body. 3, Parkinson’s patients can be reduced after surgery drugs? This is a case-by-case analysis. If the dose of medication before surgery can keep you in good condition all day, that is to say, the dose of medication is sufficient, then you should be able to reduce the amount of medication by a quarter or even half after surgery. If you take very little medication before surgery, and the “open” state of the day is very short, then the possibility of reducing the medication after surgery is relatively small, or can not reduce so much medication. 4.Do I need to adjust the type of anti-Parkinson’s disease drugs after surgery? If you take more than three types of drugs before surgery, you can generally reduce the number of drugs you take after surgery. This can achieve the purpose of treatment and can be convenient for the patient. 5.What other symptoms will be improved by the surgery besides the motor symptoms? The surgery mainly improves the motor symptoms of the patient’s “off” state, but it is not effective for swallowing, speech and balance problems. The other side effects that can be improved are those caused by medications, such as ankylogia and “on/off” phenomenon.
