Meige syndrome is generally referred to as idiopathic blepharospasm-oromandibular dystonia syndrome, the cause of which is unclear and may be related to pharmacologic factors, muscle trauma, and other causes. Patients may experience symptoms such as pouting and difficulty swallowing, which can be treated with medication and surgery. Idiopathic blepharospasm-oromandibular dystonia syndrome belongs to segmental dystonia, the cause of this disease is not clear, it is mostly considered to be caused by drug factors, muscle trauma, nasopharyngeal receiving radiotherapy, mental tension and other reasons. Patients may present with eyelid weakness, ptosis, abnormal tension in the lower face, photophobia, dry eyes, and increased transient eye movements. Some patients may also experience pouting, dysphagia, blepharospasm combined with mouth opening, lower face twitching, spasmodic dysphonia, dyspnea, postural tremor, writing spasms, hand and foot twitching, and other symptoms. It is recommended that patients can use drugs such as clonazepam and baclofen as prescribed by the doctor. In addition, patients can also take deep brain electrical stimulation and other ways of treatment. Most of the patients will be relieved after treatment, but a small number of patients may be disabled due to muscular disorders, thus affecting the quality of life.
