Corneal cysts mostly refer to corneal dermatoid cysts, and patients can be treated by surgery, such as cystectomy and corneal transplantation.
Corneal dermatoid cyst is a common congenital developmental abnormality in ophthalmology, which usually exists at birth. The cysts are located at the corneal limbus, and may gradually increase in size with age, even affecting vision. If the size of the corneal dermatoid cyst is small, the patient can be treated surgically by removing the cyst.
If the corneal dermatoid cyst is large, corneal transplantation may be indicated because the dermatoid cyst has invaded the corneal stroma, making it difficult to remove the cyst with the cornea intact, and a healthy corneal tissue needs to be transplanted to replace the diseased corneal tissue.
Patients with corneal dermatoid cysts are advised to seek timely hospitalization to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
