Complementary foods are added to infants at 6 months, 7-9 months, and 10-12 months of age, and the types of complementary foods can be gradually increased during these three stages. 1. 6 months: pureed food should be used as complementary food at this stage, pureed vegetables, pureed fruits, iron-containing formulated rice powder and formula milk. 2.7~9 months: There are more choices of complementary foods at this stage, and minced foods can be used, such as rotten noodles, thin and soft rice, minced meat, minced vegetables, eggs, fish puree, tofu, and fruits. 3.10~12 months: Supplementary food choices at this stage are mainly minced food, such as soft rice, minced meat, minced vegetables, eggs, fish, soybean products, fruits and so on. 4. The order of introduction of complementary foods is as follows. (1) From less to more: that is, immediately after breastfeeding, infants are given a small amount of rice flour fortified with iron, which is eaten with a spoon and can be used to replace one breastfeeding dose after 6~7 months of age. (2) From one to many: e.g., for the introduction of vegetables, each type of puree (puree) should be tasted 1 to 2 times/day until the infant is accustomed to it on the 3rd to 4th day before switching to another to stimulate the development of the sense of taste. The single food introduction method can help to know whether the infant develops food allergy. (3) From fine to coarse: Transitioning from puree (mush) to crumble can help learning to chew and increase the energy density of food. (4) From soft to hard: As infants age, a certain degree of hardness in their food can facilitate the eruption of teeth and the formation of chewing function. 5. Pay attention to the development of eating skills: try to let the child take the initiative to participate in eating, such as 7 to 9 months the child can grasp the food, 1 year old can use a spoon to eat, not only can increase the infant’s interest in eating, but also conducive to the coordination of eye and hand movements and the development of independent ability.
