Can you go to Tibet with heart disease and high blood pressure?

As Tibet is in a plateau area, it is prone to hypoxia, which is more likely to cause discomfort for patients with heart disease and high blood pressure. If the patient’s symptoms are well controlled and his/her physical condition is better as assessed by the doctor, he/she can go to Tibet. Tibet is located at a high altitude, characterized by thin air and low oxygen content. After arriving at the plateau area, due to the inability to adapt to the difference in air pressure, plateau reaction is likely to occur, resulting in headache, chest tightness, shortness of breath, fatigue and other manifestations. For serious heart disease and high blood pressure patients, it will increase the probability of heart failure and cerebral edema, so it is not recommended to travel to Tibet. Therefore, before traveling to Tibet, it is recommended to go to the hospital to receive a comprehensive examination under the guidance of a doctor to avoid serious complications due to plateau reaction.
