Why are your eyes red when you wake up?

Redness of the eyes upon waking up is usually caused by exposure keratitis, allergic conjunctivitis, visual fatigue and sleep deprivation.
1. Exposure keratitis: If the patient’s eyes cannot fully close the eyelids while sleeping, part of the cornea will be exposed and dried out, resulting in inflammation, called exposure keratitis, which will stimulate the patient’s eyes to become red.
2. Allergic conjunctivitis: If the patient’s conjunctival tissue is allergic to bedding lint, dust, skin dander, mites, etc., it will trigger an allergic reaction due to contact with the above mentioned allergens during sleep, resulting in redness of the eyes.
3. Visual fatigue and sleep deprivation: excessive eye use or sleep deprivation will usually cause conjunctival congestion, resulting in eye redness, which is caused by physiological factors.
As soon as you wake up with red eyes, you should go to the ophthalmology department of the hospital in time to be examined by the doctor to find out the specific cause, in addition to physiological factors.
