What to do if your blood count is high

The reason for high blood red blood cell count is the decrease of blood volume caused by severe vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Lung diseases as well as kidney cancer, ovarian cancer, etc. can also cause high red blood cell count, which can be treated by stopping diarrhea, surgery, chemotherapy, etc. to reduce red blood cells.
1. If the blood volume decreases due to severe vomiting or diarrhea, which leads to a relative increase in red blood cell count, the blood volume can be expanded and the cause of the vomiting and diarrhea can be treated, e.g. bacterial infection can be treated with antibiotics.
2. If lung diseases lead to the decrease of oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells, which leads to the compensatory increase of red blood cells, the red blood cell count can be increased through the treatment of lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which can be treated by inhalation of oxygen and the use of bronchodilating drugs such as aminophylline to reduce the red blood cell count.
3. If the non-compensatory increase of red blood cells is caused by tumors such as kidney cancer, ovarian cancer, etc., the red blood cell count can be lowered by surgical treatment of the primary tumor and radiotherapy if necessary.
4. True erythrocytosis: it is a kind of clonal myeloproliferative tumor mainly manifested by abnormal proliferation of red blood cells. Aspirin is mainly used to prevent thrombosis, hydroxyurea and other cell-lowering treatments.
If the routine blood erythrocyte count is high, it can be further examined and diagnosed, so as to choose the appropriate treatment, and the relevant drugs need to be used under the guidance of the doctor.
