Raw hawthorn, sautéed red peony and white peony are used in combination to dissipate blood stasis and relieve pain, and can be used for abdominal pain with blood stasis and menstrual closure. It should be used under the guidance of doctor’s diagnosis.
1. Hawthorn is effective in strengthening the stomach and eliminating food stagnation, dispersing blood stasis and promoting circulation of Qi, resolving turbidity and lowering lipids (clearing the body of impurities and reducing excess fat in the body). It is used for meat and food stagnation, blood stasis and menstrual closure, dysentery and abdominal pain, gastric distention and fullness, postpartum stagnation and obstruction, chest paralysis (chest tightness and pain), heart pain, heart and abdominal stabbing pain, hernia pain, hyperlipidemia and so on. People with weak spleen and stomach should take it with caution.
2. Stir-fried red peony is a concoction of red peony, with the same efficacy and treatment as red peony, and its efficacy is more moderate than that of red peony. It has the effect of cooling blood and clearing heat, dispersing blood stasis and relieving pain. It is used in treating warm-heat spots (spots and plaques appearing on the skin due to warm-heat poisonous evils invading the human body), heat entering the camp blood (heat evils invading the human body to a deep extent and with more serious symptoms), and liver-depression and coercive pain (pain in the area of coercion and ribs). It is not suitable to be used together with Veratrum.
3. The effects of Radix Paeoniae Alba are nourishing Blood and regulating menstruation, astringing Yin and stopping sweating (astringing Yin fluid and reducing sweating), softening the Liver and relieving pain (treating pain caused by Liver-Yin deficiency and Liver-Blood insufficiency), and calming Liver-Yang. It is used for menstrual disorders, blood deficiency and yellowing, abdominal pain, dystocia, spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by sweating with slight movement). White peony should not be used with veratrum.
