Four issues of greatest concern to parents of amblyopia

As parents will know from reading the previous explanation of amblyopia, most amblyopic babies have refractive problems and need to be treated with glasses. However, every day, there are worried parents who say, “It’s inconvenient for my child to wear glasses at such a young age, can’t I wait until he or she is older?” “I heard that the child’s eyes are still developing, is it possible to wait for a few years so that the eyes will be well developed and no longer need to wear glasses?” …… Today we will give parents the knowledge of baby wearing glasses: a. Why amblyopic babies need to wear glasses Suitable refractive correction (glasses as required) in the treatment of amblyopia is like a solid foundation needed to build a tall building. The first thing you need to do is to be able to focus on the object, just like we use a camera to take pictures. An amblyopic baby with refractive problems can’t focus as if he or she is out of the focal range of the camera when taking a picture. The role of wearing the right glasses is to adjust the focal length of the eyes, and then the visual nerve function can gradually develop. Second, why baby glasses need dilated pupils To give your baby a pair of suitable glasses is not an easy task. The “zoom function” of the baby’s eyes is usually more active, and the doctor can’t get the exact prescription directly as he does for adults. At this point, we need some medication to help the doctor to relax the zoom function of the baby’s eyes (also known as dilated pupils) so that we can detect the true refractive state of the baby and fit the baby with the right glasses. Parents often worry that dilated eyes will have an adverse effect on their baby’s eyes and are reluctant to use medication. The medication used to help relax the eyes is safe for the eyes, and the blurred vision and fear of bright light caused by the medication are temporary and will not cause long-term effects as the medication wears off. Third, how long do I need to wear glasses every day? After the strict prescription process, the baby’s glasses finally got. Parents will want to know how long their baby should wear glasses a day? The answer is “all day”! You should wear glasses all the time except for sleeping. Only by giving the baby’s visual center more clear image stimulation and full development of neurological function can the amblyopic baby’s backward vision be improved. Fourth, do glasses need to be replaced? Just like height and weight, the baby’s eyes are developing and the refractive state will change accordingly. Depending on the baby’s condition, the doctor will conduct a refractive eye examination again after a few months to six months to determine whether the glasses need to be replaced. Some babies do not change their prescription for a long time, but their face becomes wider and the distance between the centers of their eyes (pupil distance) becomes larger, so they need to change their glasses.
