The platelet pressure product is the percentage of platelet solvent in the peripheral blood to the blood volume. A low platelet pressure product indicates a decrease in the number of platelets in the peripheral blood. A common cause is immune thrombocytopenia, which is an autoimmune disease in which a low platelet pressure product occurs due to the production of autoantibodies against platelets, resulting in excessive destruction of platelets and a decrease in the number of cells caused. The preferred treatment for this disease is glucocorticoid therapy. If hormone therapy is not effective, treatment by removal of the spleen can also be given. In addition, patients with aplastic anemia, acute leukemia, and myelodysplastic syndrome may also have a reduced platelet pressure due to a decrease in the ability to produce platelets as a result of damage to hematopoietic stem cells, so there are multiple causes of low platelet pressure, and different treatments are needed depending on the specific cause.
