World Asthma Day: the first Tuesday in May. World Asthma Day (WAD) is a commemorative event launched by the World Health Organization to increase understanding of the current status of asthma and to enhance the prevention, treatment and management of the disease for patients and the general public. World Asthma Day is organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), together with health care teams and asthma educators. Each year, a theme is chosen. Its aims are to create awareness of asthma as a global health problem, to publicize the scientific and technological advances that have been made, and to engage the public and relevant authorities in implementing effective management methods.
