What to use for home oxygenation in heart failure patients

Home oxygen intake methods include nasal plug oxygen intake method and closed mask oxygen intake method. Heart failure patients can choose the method of oxygen intake that they feel comfortable with. Oxygen intake through nasal plug is divided into single plug and double plug. The single-plug method involves choosing a nose plug around the size of one nostril, plugging it on one side of the nose, and keeping it firmly in place. The airtight method involves wrapping the mask around the mouth and nose and securing it with an elastic band, and is more suitable for severe hypoxia. It is more comfortable and has no mucosal irritation, but it consumes more oxygen and can also interfere with drinking and spitting. Most heart failure patients are on low-flow oxygen, i.e., 2-3 liters per minute. Oxygen intake in heart failure patients is mainly to improve the lack of oxygen in the body. If a heart failure patient receives long-term home oxygen therapy, low-flow oxygen should always be chosen for several hours a day. If the patient’s condition is not stable, prompt medical attention is recommended.
