Symptoms of hydrocephalus after meningioma surgery

Meningioma surgery is usually craniotomy. Symptoms of hydrocephalus after craniotomy are mainly headache, vomiting, apathy, unresponsiveness or incontinence. Hydrocephalus can be categorized into high cranial pressure hydrocephalus and normal cranial pressure hydrocephalus. The symptoms of the two types of hydrocephalus are different. 1. Hydrocephalus with high cranial pressure: its clinical manifestations mainly include headache, nausea, vomiting, ataxia and blurred vision. Headache is common in both frontal regions and is more severe in the morning or when lying down. Vomiting is often accompanied by headache. If hydrocephalus is present in the cerebellar hemispheres, it can lead to ataxia of the patient’s limbs. 2. Normal cranial pressure hydrocephalus: the main symptoms are unsteady gait, memory impairment and urinary incontinence. Most of the patients have progressive and gradual development of symptoms. Gait instability is the first symptom, which often occurs before other symptoms. In addition, in some patients, symptoms such as mental retardation and indifference may occur simultaneously with unsteady gait. For patients with hydrocephalus after craniotomy, they should immediately go to the relevant departments of regular hospitals and be treated under the guidance of professional doctors to avoid delaying the condition.
