What is the difference between convulsions and epilepsy

The difference between convulsions and epilepsy mainly lies in the differences in etiology, symptoms, and treatment methods. 1. Etiology: Convulsions have a clear etiology, such as encephalitis, meningitis, sepsis, severe pneumonia and other infectious causes and craniocerebral injuries, intracranial occupancy, metabolic disorders, congenital developmental malformations and other non-infectious causes. The cause of epilepsy is complex, some are secondary to craniocerebral tumors, central nervous system infections and other clear causes, some may be genetically related, and most are without a clear cause. 2. Symptoms: The clinical manifestations of convulsions are usually twitching of the limbs, stiff neck, foaming at the mouth, and bruising of the face. Seizures in epileptic patients take different forms and may manifest as sensory, motor, consciousness, mental, behavioral, autonomic dysfunction or both. 3. Treatment: Convulsions are usually given sedative and tranquilizers, such as diazepam and chloral hydrate, etc. Epilepsy is usually treated with antiepileptic drugs, such as lamotrigine and sodium valproate.
