Maternal age ≥35 years was defined as advanced maternal age. The incidence of fetal chromosomal abnormalities is significantly higher in advanced maternal age than in women of appropriate age; therefore, noninvasive DNA testing is not recommended, and amniocentesis is recommended for intrauterine diagnosis. After a pregnant woman is over 35 years old, if she undergoes Down’s syndrome screening, the chance of high risk is generally very high. Whereas non-invasive DNA can check only 3 pairs of chromosomes, amniocentesis has a much wider range of tests. In addition, non-invasive DNA is not as accurate as amniocentesis. Therefore, doctors usually recommend that senior pregnant women choose amniocentesis to avoid missing or mistaken tests that may affect the health of the fetus. In addition, amniocentesis has a certain degree of invasiveness, pregnant women need to choose carefully under the guidance of specialists.
