Is lumbar spondylitis a herniated disc?

Lumbar spondylitis is not a herniated lumbar disc; lumbar spondylitis is actually a general term for a large group of disorders such as spondylitis and ankylosing spondylitis. It mainly refers to aseptic inflammation of the spine, as well as diseases in which functional limitation and pain in the lumbar or other parts of the body are the main symptoms. Although this type of disease and lumbar disc herniation have something in common, that is, both can lead to back pain, but the pathogenesis as well as the cause of the disease is completely different. Lumbar disc herniation is a condition in which a lumbar disc protrudes backward due to injury or other factors, compressing the nerves and spinal cord and causing nerve damage. Although both have symptoms of lower back pain, lumbar disc herniation tends to be a nerve injury, while lumbar spondylitis tends to be an aseptic inflammation of the spine.
