Early symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia are severe pain in the cheek sometimes accompanied by flushing and watering eyes. The early manifestation of trigeminal neuralgia is a painful sensation in the face. This pain occurs suddenly and ends abruptly and lasts only a few seconds at a time, but some secondary trigeminal neuralgia may last up to ten minutes. The pain is more intense and the nature of the pain can be cutting, tearing, or electric shock-like. In addition to pain in the cheek, early symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia may include tearing, runny nose, increased salivation, and flushing and sweating. With these symptoms, you can go to the hospital and have your doctor help clarify whether it is due to trigeminal neuralgia. Further tests may also be performed to determine if there are any organic lesions that may be causing the secondary trigeminal neuralgia.
